This CTE Advisory Committee meets to discuss the future of the Solano Community College's technical theatre program. Our goal is to learn from industry professionals and educators about potential new curriculum, changes in standard equipment, desired industry skills, and to brainstorm proposed uses of federal funds to improve the program.

Short answer: money to develop Career Technical Education programs.
The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Perkins V) was signed into law by President Trump on July 31, 2018.
This bipartisan measure reauthorized the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Perkins IV) and continues Congressβ commitment in providing nearly $1.3 billion annually for career and technical education (CTE) programs for our nationβs youth and adults.
Perkins V represents an important opportunity to expand opportunities for every student to explore, choose, and follow career and technical education programs of study and career pathways to earn credentials of value.

We must used the funding to develop projects and activities that:
Align with stated Perkins V objectives (providing students with skills for in-demand, high-quality, high paying jobs)
Demonstrate innovative ideas that support student access and completion
Show a commitment to addressing student equity gaps in concrete, measurable ways
These could include things like: guest speakers, equipment, software, partnerships with community stakeholders, professional development (curriculum, conferences), outreach, and more.
-
Perkins cannot be used to give direct funds to students - for example, Perkins cannot be used as a scholarship fund.
Perkins cannot be used for food - it CAN be used for consumable goods like inks for printers, though.
