A gala evening showcasing the various forms of arts in Solano County is being staged with its inaugural event of "Arts Gone Wild – a Celebration of the Arts in Fairfield" on May 22, 2008, from 6-9 p.m. at the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts.
This gala event, in collaboration with the Fairfield Community Services Department, will feature a multimedia installation of art, photographs and poetry. Also included is a scene from Fairfield Civic Theatre's production of Pirates of Penzance, a performance by The North Bay Opera Theater, as well as a cliffhanging segment from the premiere of Solano Repertory Company’s new playwright contest winning show The Tutor by Anthony Gray Finocchiaro.
Guests will be able to peruse various food and Suisun Valley Wines stations peppered throughout the venue and dance to the jazz combos of the Dalt Williams Band (of Jazz for all Occasiona) and Keith Stout Combo of the Vacaville Jazz Society and The Alive Music Orchestra.
The gala has also collaborated with Holly Stell, the celebrated 15-year-old opera singer dubbed the "Petite Pavarotti" and who has recorded a duet with Andrea Bocelli. Stell’s past performances include appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, NBC’s Today Show and CNN Showbiz Tonight.
"This is an incredible way to support the arts community, filled with a wonderful and talented pool of people who do great, creative work," said Kevin Ryan, organizer of "Arts Gone Wild." "It is an E-Ticket ride to educate, enthrall, excel, enlarge and entertain."
Earlier this year, Fairfield’s City Council announced severe budget cuts that would encroach on the city’s arts programs. Through ongoing efforts from the arts community and volunteers, funding for the Cultural Arts Award Program (CAAP) was reinstated, providing $50,000 for grants and rental fee waive at the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts for the 2008/09 grantees.
Subsequently, an astonishing collaboration by the local business community, arts groups, promoters, interested citizens and the Community Services Department was formed, proving the genesis of “Arts Gone Wild” can turn city assets into revenue centers that unite and create awareness to the city’s talented pool of artists and their art.
“Arts Gone Wild” is intended to help continue the worthy tradition of showcasing local artists and their talents. Proceeds will benefit the development of further collaboration among all of the arts in Fairfield.
The gala event will take place from 6-9 p.m. May 22 at the Fairfield Center for Creative Arts, 1035 Texas St., downtown Fairfield. Tickets are $15, available at City Hall at the Mall or by calling 428-SHOW (7469).

4/3/08 - Kids will dig SCT's 'Frog & Toad' show - By Richard Bammer
Article Launched: 04/02/2008 05:49:20 AM PDT
The final play of Solano College Theatre's 2007-08 season, "A Year With Frog & Toad," invokes the ghost of Fred Rogers, the kindly minister, educator and songwriter who hosted the long-running PBS children's show, "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood," until shortly before his death in 2003.
Well, Edward Hightower's Frog seemed to embrace the spirit of the legendary TV personality. Hightower did not change into sneakers, zipper himself up in a cardigan, feed a fish or sing "Won't You Be My Neighbor?"
But, during the course of the nearly two-hour musical at SCT's main campus theater in Fairfield, Hightower's character came close imitating Rogers' compassion for others, especially in his interactions with Toad, played by Brian Herndon.

"Intimate Apparel" a Start to Finish Gem
"Karen Aldridge gives a tour de force performance in the role of Ester. Restrained, exuberant, vulnerable, strong – she lived in each moment on the stage.... This transforming and engrossing work is not to be missed. The audience was so into the story that audible gasps could be heard at the revelation of each plot twist... This funny, compelling, challenging and wonderful play is the show of the season."
